What should you consider before scattering your person’s ashes?
The answer is that as long as you have permission from the owner of the land or body of water - think local councils, private landowners, State Parks and National Parks - you can scatter your person’s ashes wherever you like.
Whilst there is no direct health risk to humans from ashes, it is important to note that cremated remains have such high pH levels they can cause damage to soil and water environs, so there are guidelines about scattering ashes in waterways and public land.
(The pH level is akin to bleach or oven cleaner)
Recently, I have been told of a company called EcoAsh who have devised a way of treating ashes with organic additives to not only improve consistency (no powder blown in your eyes by a rogue gust of wind) but also the pH balance, thus making them more environmentally friendly.
Interesting stuff I think.
